Scarsdale Youth Hockey Association (‘SYHA’) is a volunteer-run non-profit that was founded in 1996. Our primary goal as an organization is to provide opportunities for co-ed children aged 6 - 18 in the Scarsdale and Greater Westchester County area to learn and play ice hockey in a safe, fun, and competitive environment.
For our Development Team, we prioritize creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere where every child feels valued and supported, regardless of their skill level.

Program Lead
Our 8U Development team is led by Paul Stuetz. Paul has been coaching for over 25 years and has coached nearly 5,000 children and adults, including both youth and adult learn to play programs. He is a CEP Level 3 certified coach with USA Hockey.
Ages
For the 2024 - 2025 season, our Development Team will primarily be made up of players born in the years 2016 - 2018. That said, we welcome players of all ages if they are interested in learning how to play hockey!
Price
Provided upon request.
Mites clinic is free.
When
Our program runs from late-August to late-March.
We typically break for holidays (e.g., Thanksgiving, Winter Holidays, February School Break) although we offer "stick times" and other free skills clinics over these holidays periods for program members.
Where
Practice and home games locations will vary between Westchester Skating Academy and EJ Murray Memorial Skating Center. The locations of games and practices for teams will be determined once the number of teams and players are known.
Practices
Our Development Team program can expect two practices per week, typically Tuesday and Thursday evenings, but also potentially on Saturday afternoons.
Games
Although the Development Team is primarily focused on teaching players fundamental skating and playing skills, we will look to find appropriate scrimmages and games for our players over the course of the season.
